Mercurino Arborio di GATTINARA to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Toledo, 1529-02-14

English register:

Gattinara complains about the fact that Dantiscus prefers to wait for the French passport away from the court, thus depriving him of the pleasure of his company. He assures Dantiscus of his friendship and insists he shouldn’t feel indebted to him because his virtue [virtus] makes him deserve everything the chancellor has managed to do for him. He would also like to be able to do even more.

Gattinara assures Dantiscus he will try to make sure that the promises the emperor made in his absence, when Dantiscus was leaving [Toledo in December 1528], are kept.

Dantiscus’ letter to Valdés [IDL 5771] has confirmed him in his good opinion of the Polish envoy. Valdés will write more about this and will also send the privilege [dignifying his coat of arms] in the form Dantiscus sought.
