[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Kaspar HANNAU]s.l., [1542, end of December]

Although illness still forces Dantiscus to dictate his letters, he assures the addressee that he is already feeling better. He sends a copy of his letter to the addressee dated 7 November. He assumes that the addressee has already collected 150 ducats for his upkeep from the Fuggers.
Dantiscus has received two letters from Hannau (dated 17 September and 28 October), as well as Hannau’s letter to [Stanisław] Hozjusz (Hosius). From the royal court he has been sent a letter from those four [cardinals appointed to examine the case of Alexander Sculteti: Gian Pietro Carafa, Juan Álvarez y Alva de Toledo, Pietro Paolo Parisi, and Bartolomeo Guidiccioni]. He assumes a reply to that letter will soon be given, likely not differing from the opinion of the addressee. Due to fatigue from dictation, he is unable to respond at greater length for now. He sends this note to acknowledge the receipt of the letters and to announce that a fuller reply will follow shortly.
If he manages to do so before an envoy is sent to the royal court, he will attach the enclosed slips to the letter.
