Letter #3064
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Stanisław HOZJUSZ (HOSIUS)s.l., 1547-03-18
English register:
Dantiscus is confident that the addressee is acquainted with the case which Hans Keting, a [Gdańsk (Danzig)] burgher who is the bearer of the present letter, is litigating with his half-sisters. Keting has already availed himself of Hozjusz’s (Hosius’) assistance on several occasions, and is now setting out once more for the [royal] court. As Keting has been recommended to Dantiscus by friends, he has furnished letters commending him to the addressee and to the Bishop of Kraków [Samuel Maciejowski], so that thanks to their support he may get the king [Sigismund I] to refer the matter for adjudication to the councillors of Royal Prussia, which would help him avoid protracted legal proceedings.
Dantiscus requests that Hozjusz, together with the Bishop of Kraków, assist Keting in obtaining the appropriate documents under the [royal] seal. He is carrying the drafts with him, to be amended as the addressee sees fit. He assures him that Keting will not fail to show his gratitude.
