Letter #3082

Ioannes DANTISCUS & Achatius von ZEHMEN (CEMA) to Johann von LUSIAN (LUZJAŃSKI)
s.l., [1547-04-06 — 1547-04-26]

English register:

The authors, on behalf of themselves and the remaining members of the council of Royal Prussia, cite in full the royal commission [of Sigismund I] for the consideration of the matter. [The text of the commission is omitted in the copy of the letter.] Following the presentation of the said commission, they were called upon by the city council of Graudenz (Grudziądz) to make a lawsuit in the matter mentioned therein, in accordance with its terms.

As they wish to fulfil the royal command and execute the terms of the commission, they sue the addressee by virtue of the authority vested in them by the king, and call upon him to appear at the next Diet of Royal Prussia before the councillors of that land, wherever and whenever it may be convened. He is to appear in person or send a fully authorised representative to act on his behalf in the matter described in the royal commission. The authors stipulate that regardless of whether the defendant appears or not, the matter will be proceeded with in accordance with the terms of the commission.
