Letter #3111
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Wilhelm von Hohenzollern]Heilsberg (Lidzbark), 1547-06-08
English register:
The addressee had asked Dantiscus to send him the decrees of the Council of Trent. The Archbishop of Uppsala [Olaus Magnus], for his part, wished them to be conveyed to the addressee, as the latter will learn from the enclosure written in his hand appended to the letter. Dantiscus had intended to send the materials earlier, but neither a suitable opportunity nor an appropriate messenger presented itself. He is sending them by the addressee’s messenger. He requests that they be returned through his nephew, Valentin Hannau, who set out for him the day before yesterday with a letter from Dantiscus containing congratulations on the addressee’s arrival [in Ducal Prussia].
Regarding the progress of the Council of Trent, no reliable news is available beyond what the archbishop of Uppsala sent him on 16 March. On account of the plague, the proceedings have been transferred to Bologna until the danger has passed. The participants are then to return to Trent and continue the proceedings there to their conclusion.
