Letter #3114

[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Stanisław HOZJUSZ (HOSIUS)
Heilsberg (Lidzbark), 1547-06-11

English register:

The bearer of the present letter, Achatius Grabow, has come to Dantiscus asking him to renew his recommendation of his case, in which Dantiscus had already appealed to the addressee for support in the previous year. At that time the king [Sigismund I Jagiellon] issued no ruling, but referred the matter to the court and city council of Gdańsk (Danzig), so that Grabow might present before them any materials collected from the proceedings. Since he obtained a ruling from the court but not from the council, which delayed its decision, he has now gone once more to the royal court to obtain a definitive verdict from the king.

Grabow has asked Dantiscus for his intercession with the addressee and the Bishop of Cracow (Kraków) [Samuel Maciejowski]. With their assistance, he might either be relieved of the legal proceedings or reach an agreement with the opposing party, namely the abbot [Jodocus Kron] and the monastery of Pelplin. Dantiscus accedes to his request.
