Letter #3293
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Sigismund I JagiellonHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1547-12-19
English register:
Dantiscus thanks the addressee for fulfilling the request he had repeatedly expressed in his letters and for issuing, under seal, the document for the castellan of Elbing (Elbląg) and starost of Mewe (Gniew), Johann von Baysen (Jan Bażyński), extending his possession of the estate of Mewe until Whitsunday [20 May 1548]
Dantiscus argues that this intercession is warranted by the services which the ancestors of the castellan of Elbing – including his father [Georg von Baysen (Jerzy Bażyński)] – had rendered to the king, his predecessors, and the Kingdom of Poland to keep Royal Prussia within the kingdom.
On account of these merits, he asks the king to allow the castellan of Elbing to retain the estate previously held by his father until his death, as petitioned by the councillors of Royal Prussia, which the envoys [Tiedemann Giese, Johann von Baysen, Johann von Werden, Achatius von Zehmen (Achacy Cema), Fabian von Zehmen (Cema)] will present to the king. This will be welcomed by the subjects in Royal Prussia and will be consistent with the privileges of that land. He makes assurances that he will faithfully serve the king together with the recipient of this favour.
