Letter #3420
Ioannes DANTISCUS to Ermland (Warmia) ChapterHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1548-07-31
English register:
Recently, Eustace [Knobelsdorf] sent Dantiscus a list of debts of the deceased parish priest [Thomas Roseler] of Grosse Lichtenau (Lichnowy), asking for it to be certified as a last will and testament. Dantiscus considers this list, as well as the damaged sheet of paper that has now been delivered to him by the chapter, to be suspicious. He cannot certify either of these papers as a valid testament. Therefore, he requests the addressees to immediately send him an inventory of the deceased’s man’s property. On this basis, he intends to dispose of the estate in a manner corresponding to their expectations, for the benefit of the soul of the deceased, and in compliance with his own episcopal duties.
