Letter #4820
Ioannes DANTISCUS to Ermland (Warmia) ChapterHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1540-11-26
English register:
Dantiscus informs the chapter that Achatius Trenck has conveyed messages to him and delivered the chapter’s letters addressed to the queen [Bona Sforza] and to Jan Benedyktowicz [Solfa]. He will forward these letters to the royal court along with his own correspondence. He declares his intention to write in defense of the chapter to the king, the queen, and to Solfa himself. Dantiscus believes that Solfa has treated the chapter unfairly, and since he has maintained good relations with him for years, he will endeavour to bring about reconciliation.
Dantiscus approves the chapter’s proposal to establish a school in the building contested owing to a royal donation. He promises to support this initiative should a settlement between the disputing parties be reached. He has written a letter to the custodian [Johann Tymmermann] to instruct him on the proper procedure regarding the royal donation. He has also sent him the privilege granted to his nephew [Simon Hannau], drafted according to advice given to him on behalf of the chapter by the custos [Achatius Trenck], requesting that the chapter affix its seal to it.
Also, he has enclosed a copy of the mandate he issued to all his officials in connection with arson incidents. He urges the chapter to issue a similar mandate.
