Letter #6683
Ioannes DANTISCUS to Ermland (Warmia) Chapter[Heilsber]g (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1541-01-[07]
English register:
Mikołaj Płotowski presented to Dantiscus a royal mandate addressed to Ermland (Warmia) chapter, complaining that, contrary to the legal customs of Royal Prussia, he had twice been summoned before the chapter’s court due to a certain furrier [Heinrich Braun], as if he were a serf under its jurisdiction. In fact, he is a royal subject and landowner in Kulm (Chełmno) Land, enjoying the rights of the nobility. Dantiscus considers his complaint justified and, to protect the chapter from accusations of abuse, that is disapproved in the Kingdom, he withheld the summonses. In the mandate, the king demands the chapter clarify who owns the house under dispute and prohibits further legal action.
Dantiscus conveys news received from his nephew [Kaspar Hannau] in Rome concerning matters of the chapter. He had intended to do so through the administrator Achatius Trenck, but as Trenck has fallen ill, he will be replaced by the custodian and general vicar [Johann Tymmermann].
