Ioannes Dantiscus Itinerary Web Map illustrates all documented and source-verified stays of Ioannes Dantiscus (1485–1548) along with selected, thoroughly substantiated journeys. Users are provided with options to filter by phases of life and refine the chronological scope. The travel routes are depicted on the map only in a schematic manner. The data originates from the Ioannes Dantiscus Itinerary project.

How to use:
The core unit of the Itinerary is an ‟entry”, which comprises a location and the date of Dantiscus’ stay. The map marks all places where Dantiscus’ presence has been documented in primary sources.

SEARCH
Users can search for locations by their historical or contemporary names. Clicking on a location on the map opens an informational pop-up containing a list of all ‟entries” associated with that location. Users can navigate between entries using the arrow located in the bottom-right corner of the informational pop-up window. The intensity of the white coloration in the circle representing a location on the map corresponds to the number of entries associated with that location.

FILTERS
The map’s content can be filtered using the following criteria:

1. Certainty of the ‟entry” (confirmed or uncertain).
2. Date precision (precise or approximate).
3. Number of ‟entries” related to a given location (ranges: 1, 2–10, 11–50, 51–100, >100).
4. Phases of Dantiscus’s life
• Youth and Beginnings of Career [1485–1518],
• Independent Diplomat [1518–1532],
• Bishop and Councillor in Prussia [1532–1548].
Within these phases, six major travels have been distinguished:
• Pilgrimage to the Holy Land (1506),
• The Congress of Pressburg-Vienna and Stay at Emperor Maximilian’s Court (1515–1517),
• First Diplomatic Mission (1518–1519),
• Second Diplomatic Mission (1522–1523),
• Third Diplomatic Mission (1524–1532),
• Fourth Diplomatic Mission (1538).
These travels are depicted using lines and arrows to indicate the sequence of locations visited by Dantiscus. As primary sources do not allow for precise reconstructions of the routes, the points on the map are connected with straight lines, resulting in a schematic visualization.
Within the phases of life users can also filter the map by specific categories of stays, including:
• Stays at schools,
• Attendance at Diets (Sejms) of the Kingdom of Poland,
• Participation in Diets of Royal Prussia.
5. Chronological Scope: Using a calendar tool
The calendar allows users to select a date range for visualization on the map. The start date should be selected first, followed by the end date, in the order of year–month–day.

Calendar searches, as well as filters by life phases, travels, and categories of stays, interactively narrow the search results. Applying filters restricts the content of the informational pop-up for a given location to ‟entries” that fall within the selected filter categories.
Map backgrounds are available in three versions: two contour maps with terrain relief, and OpenStreetMap. (A historical map background has been excluded due to the variable political landscape over time.)
