Letter #3042

[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Achatius TRENCK]
s.l., 1547-02-11

English register:

Dantiscus welcomes the manner in which the addressee has distributed the goods left behind by the deceased parish priest of Braunswalde (Brąswałd), which he has done in accordance with his instructions. He asks to distribute the remainder to the poor and to the priestly fraternity and to the parish priests in Diwitten (Dywity) and Bertung (Bartąg), according to the deceased man’s bequest. The portion intended for the innkeeper and both village mayors should also be given to the poor. He does not object to the Bible being given to Henricus Osterwnitzki, on condition that it be returned to Braunswalde after his death.

Dantiscus consents to his chaplain, Paul, taking over the parish from the deceased priest. However, the man has a closer connection to the parish priest in Guttstadt [Paweł Snopek] than to Dantiscus himself, which is why he will have to reach an agreement with him. Dantiscus believes that the chaplain will come to regret leaving him once he realises how much work awaits him for the modest endowment, as is evident from the inventory of the said parish.

Dantiscus also encloses the news that has reached him.
