Letter #3291
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Samuel MACIEJOWSKIHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1547-12-19
English register:
Dantiscus thanks the addressee for the support that, through his intercession, has been granted so far before the king [Sigismund I] to Johann von Baysen (Jan Bażyński) in his efforts to retain the estate of Mewe (Gniew). The castellan of Elbing (Elbląg) has obtained a royal document extending his tenure until Whitsunday [20 May 1548]. Dantiscus has no doubt that the interested party himself will also show his gratitude to the addressee.
He furthermore requests support for the envoys from Royal Prussia [Tiedemann Giese, Johann von Baysen, Johann von Werden, Achatius von Zehmen (Achacy Cema), Fabian von Zehmen (Cema)], sent to the king concerning the retention of the province’s privileges, the maintenance of which the king and the estates of the kingdom had promised.
Since the castellan of Elbing also fears for the security of his holdings, Dantiscus expresses his conviction that the addressee will grant him assistance, so that, in consideration of the merits of his ancestors and his father [Georg von Baysen (Jerzy Bażyński)], he may retain the estate.
Dantiscus is convinced that the addressee favours the castellan and makes efforts toward a successful conclusion of the matter.
He commends both the castellan and himself to the addressee’s kindness.
