Letter #3415
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Stanisław HOZJUSZ (HOSIUS)Heilsberg (Lidzbark), 1548-07-19
English register:
The addressee will learn the contents of Dantiscus’ recommendation for the town council of Elbing (Elbląg) from his letter to the bishop of Cracow [Samuel Maciejowski]. Certain individuals are defaming the council before the king [Sigismund Augustus], even though it has caused no harm to anyone and never thwarted the administration of justice. The envoys sent to Cracow for the funeral of the king [Sigismund I] will furnish the addressee with more information about those groundless accusations. Dantiscus asks the addressee to defend the town councillors against their adversaries so that the town may continue to enjoy royal favour.
