[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Fabian WOJANOWSKI (DAMERAU)]
Löbau (Lubawa), 1537-03-16

English register: Dantiscus is replying to two letters from Wojanowski. He informs him that one of the letters reached him opened and damaged. Dantiscus has replied to Count von Nassau. He has sent the letter through Georg Hegel to reduce the postage costs – he paid eight florins for the previous letter. He expects a reply via the same means. He encloses a copy of that letter, requesting that Wojanowski translate it for the queen, and show it in the appropriate light. He wants Wojanowski to let him know the queen’s reaction. Dantiscus informs Wojanowski that he has written to the queen (letter No. 16) about the portraits. He has not yet seen the intaglio with his coat-of-arms nor his coat-of-arms engraved in steel. He asks Wojanowski to make sure these items are sent to him. He has asked Hegel to make the payment for them. Dantiscus advises Wojanowski to change his habits and recommends sexual restraint. He thinks that if Wojanowski follows this advice, he will find it easier to realize his plans (concerning his church career). He quotes the words of St. Paul that a man sullied by debauchery receives the sacrament of the Eucharist in an unworthy way.
