Letter #3878

[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to Sigismund I Jagiellon
Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1539-08-01

English register:

Dantiscus supports the complaint of the Bishop of Kulm (Chełmno) [Tiedemann Giese] concerning the attack on his village and the beating and abduction of his subject together with all his property by two noblemen from the Dobrzyń Land (Ziemia Dobrzyńska) [Moszczyński] and Kulm Land (Ziemia Chełmińska) [Richnowski]. Earlier, Giese had filed a complaint with the Voivode of Kulm [Johann von Lusian (Luzjański)], but in vain.

Dantiscus asks the King to order the members of the Prussian Council, out of concern for both dioceses [Kulm and Ermland (Warmia)], to respect the privileges and jurisdiction of the Bishop of Kulm and to take appropriate measures at the next Diet [of Royal Prussia] against the Voivode of Kulm and those guilty of the attack.
