Arendt STURM to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Ghent (Gandavum), 1531-07-07

English register:

Sturm recommends himself to Dantiscus and thanks him for his letter. He does not deserve Dantiscus' praise, nor does his family. They should have done even more, and they will never forget Dantiscus' kindness and benevolence. What Dantiscus praises in his letter is due to his excellence, and not to the merit of Sturm and his family.

As to (what Dantiscus did for) his nephew Michiel [De Vriendt] he received more than he could have wished for, and he expresses his gratitude. He regrets that they could not treat Dantiscus according to his dignity. He is entirely at Dantiscus' disposal. He prays that the Lord may preserve Dantiscus. His wife and his daughters Joozijne and Lyncken recommend themselves to Dantiscus.

Sturm recommends his nephew Michiel. They would be grateful if Michiel could obtain an appointment in the service of the Queen [Mary of Hungary], because they fear he could get in trouble when he is in a foreign country. He thanks Dantiscus again for all his kindness.
