Letter #4168

Stephanus TOBIE to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Löbau (Lubawa), 1539-06-20

English register:

Stephanus Tobie extends thanks for the letter received. He gratefully accepts the gift in the form of the longed-for Ideota.

He sends news on the death of Meissen Duke George [of Saxony] and his son Frederick who died soon after his marriage to [Elisabeth] von Mansfeld. Their heir is Henry, George’s brother. This change of power worries the monks.

He notes that Dantiscus will soon receive a reply from the Provincial (minister) of the Franciscans regarding his proposal for conventuum duorum restituenda reformatione [restoring the reformed rule at two convents?]. On St Bartholomew’s Day [24 August] at the latest, he expects the arrival of the father commissioner who will expound that reply. Tobie expects that he will be dealing with this matter personally.

            received [1539]-06-22
