Letter #6686
Ioannes DANTISCUS to Ermland (Warmia) ChapterHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1546-03-22
English register:
Johann Hannau Jr, a canon and a nephew of Dantiscus, whom Dantiscus has ordained as a subdeacon, is setting out for Frauenberg (Frombork). He is coming to complete the customarily prescribed thirty days [of remaining in his stall for at least two hours every day and participating in the canonical hours], and thereby to attain the status of a full member of the college of canons. In Dantiscus’ view, he will be received with even greater goodwill since Johann’s brother [Kaspar Hannau] spent seven years in Rome attending to the chapter’s interests and opposing the adversary [Alexander Sculteti] at Dantiscus’ expense, which amounted to two thousand ducats, including additional outlays. It is through Dantiscus’ efforts and goodwill that peace and security have been preserved for the diocese and the chapter to this day.
