Letter #1724
[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Jan CHOJEŃSKI]Löbau (Lubawa), 1537-09-25
English register: Dantiscus congratulates Chojeński on obtaining confirmation of his election to the Cracow bishopric. He thanks him for the help owing to which he was postulated to the Warmia bishopric on September 20 while maintaining the election procedure. Dantiscus asks Chojeński to write a letter to Rome concerning confirmation of his appointment and concerning confirmation of Tiedemann Giese’s election to the Chełmno bishopric. He will soon send him sample letters and other necessary documents. Dantiscus asks Chojeński to have these documents prepared at the royal chancellery and to send them back to Prussia. From there, Dantiscus and Giese will make sure they are sent to Rome together with all the required attachments. The messenger delivering the above-mentioned documentation will also give Chojeński Dantiscus’ reply as to the cession of the Warmia canonry in favor of Stanisław Hozjusz, and the resignation document itself. Dantiscus writes that he cannot refuse Chojeński anything, but fears the queen’s anger, as he promised her to resign in favor of Fabian Wojanowski. He asks Chojeński to help in assuaging the imminent conflict.
