Letter #1968

Ioannes DANTISCUS to Tiedemann GIESE
Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1538-11-05

English register:

Dantiscus sees no need to send Giese back the bull on the basis of which he gave his oath to the Pope in front of him. In the past, Dantiscus’ consecrator, Andrzej Krzycki, had returned the bull to him, demanding nothing more. As Giese’s consecrator, Dantiscus did the same. Dantiscus believes the excessive requirement to send the oaths was abolished with the requirement of taking a trip to Rome. But if Giese is concerned, he can send his bull and Dantiscus will send him his.

Dantiscus invites Giese to the wedding of his sister [Catherina von Höfen] on the Sunday after the feast of St. Martin [November 17], correcting the date he gave earlier.

Dantiscus promises to send Giese any news that the royal messenger brings on returning from the royal court.

Qua in re non puto Dominationem Vestram Reverendissimam oportere esse sollicitam, quandoquidem consecrator meus, reverendissimus olim dominus Andreas Cricius, bullam, ex qua in manus eius iuramentum praestiti on the marginpraestitipraestiti on the margin, nihil a me exigens, mihi restituit, quod similiter Dominationi Vestrae Reverendissimae a me factum est.
