English register:

With reference to the addressee’s declaration that he had not been aware he was to receive the office of Castellan of Elbing (Elbląg), Dantiscus congratulates him and offers the wish that he may serve in this office mindfully and for the benefit of the common good.

He promises to pass on any news brought by the messenger currently returning from the court.

Generose Domine, amice plurimum dilecte.

Salutem et felicitatem.

Litteras Dominationis Vestrae, quas ab hoc nuntio hodie habuimus, quibus nobis suggerit serenissimam maiestatem regiam castellanatum Elbingensem sibi etiam ignoranti contulisse, non moleste legimus. Hanc quidem honoris accessionem, quam, ut scribit, inscienter accepit, ut ea scienter ac perite ad Dei Omnipotentis honorem, regiae dignitatis augmentum reipublicaeque huius nostrae communis patriae salutem utatur, ex animo Dominationi Vestrae favemus atque optamus.

Apud nos nova nulla sunt. Veredarium nostrum ex aula indies exspectamus. Qui, si quid eiusmodi attulerit, nacti commoditatem Dominationem Vestram latere non sinemus .
