Ioannes DANTISCUS to Ermland (Warmia) Chapter
Guttstadt (Dobre Miasto), 1540-04-12

English register:

Dantiscus sends the Chapter a copy of the King’s [Sigismund I Jagiellon] letter on staying in areas covered by heresy and on possesion of Lutheran books. He recommends implementation of the edict in the Chapter’s estates/dominions/demesne. He wishes to be notified when the prohibitions are violated/transgressed.

Venerabilibus Dominis, praelatis, canonicis et capitulo ecclesiae nostrae Varmiensis, fratribus sincere nobis dilectis

Ioannes Dei gratia episcopus Varmiensis

Venerabiles Domini, fratres sincere dilecti.

Accepimus superioribus diebus ex aula litteras, quarum iis inclusimus exemplum. Ex eo Serenissimae Maiestatis Regiae voluntatem intelligent, quae non solum ad nostram, verum etiam ad Fraternitatum Vestrarum et ad omnium harum terrarum regiam ditionem se extendit. Ut igitur illi satisfiat, communiter nobis est intendendum. Proinde Fraternitates Vestras hortamur, si qui a vestratibus ad infecta haeresi loca profecti sunt aut apud illos hic domi libri lue Lutherana perliti habeantur, diligenter inquirant, et ad nos edictum regium executuros deferant.
