Alfonso de VALDÉS to Ioannes DANTISCUS

Valdés sends Dantiscus the petitions of the queen [Bona] approved in Mantua, a sample of the letter to be sent, a letter from the pope as well as the well flogged Thomas and a text about events in this city [Augsburg] connected with the Lutherans. He asks Dantiscus to read this last text, correct it and supplement it together with Cornelis [De Schepper] if he is there.

In this letter, the Pope does not address the Emperor Dilecte Fili, while he gives this designation to German princes. Boehmer’s reference seems wrong. Valdés possibly means a non extant papal bull for Dantiscus in connection with his nomination for the bishopric of Kulm. The nomination was decided in Rome 1530-08-03 (Cf. cf. [2 ] It seems probable that ratio rerum in hac urbe gestarum cum Lutheranis is a text published at the end of 1530 by Lieven Algoet, entitled cf.
