Nullus Alexandri effigiem nisi Cous Apelles
Audebat priscis pingere temporibus.
Nil leve, nil crudum maiestas regia poscit,
Nil, quam quod iusto pondere pondus habet.
Hinc vereor, regum specimen, Sigismunde, decusque,
Incultum tibi quid ne mea Musa ferat.
Esset opus, fateor, Flacco magnoque Marone,
Calliopes nato Maeonioque sene,
Hoc iam coniugii praesertim tempore sacri
Ut faustos canerent tempus in omne toros.
Non tamen audaces potui retinere Camenas,
In laudem dicunt quae bona verba tuam.
Suscipias clemens, rex inclute! Suscipit, inquam,
Immensus parvas Ennosigaeus aquas.
Dent alii gemmas, aurum, dent serica multa;
Tu gemmas, aurum, serica multa tenes.
Ast ego do carmen; sacri dant carmina vates,
Quae famam claris saepe dedere viris.
Sume tui scribae subito conflata calore
Munera, quo superi pectore tura solent!
