[1 ] Doubtless the aim of Achatius von Zehmen’s journey to
Brandenburg was to discuss matters related to the possible succession of the
Hohenzollerns’ Brandenburg line in the Duchy of Prussia. The journey took place in the
spring of 1538. The plans for this journey were the subject of von Zehmen’s talks with
Prussian Duke Albrecht at their meeting in Sztum in September 1537, a few days after Albrecht’s return from Christian III’s coronation (cf. cf.
