Perdere quem voluit caesar, se credidit hosti,
Servavit pactam sed tamen ille fidem,
Si qua fides regum tangit praecordia, certe
Nulla fides maior quam tua, caesar, erit.
Rursum si qua fides regum praecordia tangit,
Nulla fides maior quam tua, Galle, fuit.
Si tamen hoc factum liceat ratione metiri
Iure quidem dici stultus uterque potest.
