Letter #3918
Ioannes [DANTISCUS] to Paweł PŁOTOWSKIHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1545-04-23
English register:
At an earlier date, Dantiscus received a letter from Rome from an Ermland canon, Mikołaj Loka, which he gave to the administrator of Allenstein (Olsztyn) [Achatius Trenck] to read. Trenck stated that he had forwarded it to the addressee of the present letter. As Dantiscus intends to reply to it within the coming days, he wishes to know the opinion of the [Ermland] chapter and of the addressee regarding Loka’s request [for additional funds from the chapter to come from his canonry so that he may continue his studies in Rome]. In Dantiscus’ view, Loka ought to remain in Rome in order to pursue his studies for the benefit of the diocese. He asks the addressee to state his position on this matter and to write to Loka.
