Letter #348

Cornelis DE SCHEPPER to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Palamos, 1527-05-27

English register:

The Chancellor [Mercurino Gattinara] has decided to depart the same day, despite the threat of an attack by the French. He plans to return by September. Meanwhile De Schepper will continue to advocate Dantiscus' cause. There is no further news. De Schepper will write to Dantiscus from Genoa or Monaco. The Chancellor is in good shape. They are sailing with a carrack, a galleon and three brigantines.

De Schepper asks Dantiscus to wish them Godspeed, and to recommend him to the Vice-Chancellor [Balthasar Merklin von Waldkirch] and Dantiscus’ paramour [Isabel Delgada], and, in a postscript, also to the Margrave [Johann Albrecht of Brandenburg] and to the Count Palatine.

Clarissimo domino Ioanni Dantisco, regiae maiestatis Poloniae oratori, domino tamquam orig. tanquamtamquamtamquam orig. tanquam patri observando

BCz, 240, p. 179

Salutem.

Senex noster omnino hodie ait se navigaturum neque retineri potest precibus ullis, quamquam Gallos naviganti insidiaturos esse facile queat constare. In animo tamen esse sibi, ait, redire sub mensem Septembrem, quod utinam Deus fortunet. Ego interea adhortator ero, quoad possim. Scribam ad te ex Genua vel ex Mo written over ...... illegible...... illegibleoo written over ...noeco, quocumque appulerimus.

Rerum novarum nihil hic habemus, utpote qui procul degimus a curia.

Ex portu in Palamos, XXVII-a Maii anno 1527.

Tuus ex animo, ut nosti, Cornelius Scepperus

Postscript:

Si redierit illustrissimus dominus marchio, me ipsius gratiae plurimum commenda. Saluta autem comitem palatinum, confratrem nostrum.
