Letter #402

Cornelis DE SCHEPPER to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Bermeo, 1528-03-08

English register:

De Schepper and his company are ready to set sail from Bermeo to Flanders. Together with some companions they have procured a small cutter, which sails fast enough to escape potential enemies. He travels together with the Lord of Montfort. De Schepper has taken command of the small ship, since the Vice-Chancellor [Balthasar Merklin von Waldkirch] is travelling on board the larger vessel.

De Schepper will write to Dantiscus upon his arrival in Flanders. He conveys the greetings of the Vice-Chancellor, Ravesteiner and Georg Reyngher, and recommends himself to the Chancellor [Mercurino Gattinara] and their mutual friends.

Magnifico domino Ioanni Dantisco, serenissimi Poloniae regis oratori tamquam patri observando

In curia

Sumus in Vermeo, exspectamus ventum. Assumpsimus proprio sumptu celocem parvam, quae nobis constitit ducatis plusquam trecentis. Ego taxatus sum ad XX. Omnia iam parata sunt. Dominus a Montfort adhuc nobiscum est. Iuncti navigabimus velis quattuor. Parva illa celox vix est decem vasorum, habet tamen commoditatem viginti et sex remorum. Ego me illi praefeci, nam reverendissimus dominus Melitensis in azabram maiorem concedet. Si advenerint hostes, nemo me citius evadet. Scribam ad te, cum pervenerimus in Flandriam. Salutant te imprimis reverendissimus dominus, deinde Ravesteiner et Georgius Reyngher. Oro te, ut me cancellario commendes et amicis omnibus.
