Dimisit Caesar Gallum, quia credidit illi,
Virtutis specimen nobile nonne fuit?
Credidit inde fide sub eadem nuper ad illum
Divertens, quid enim criminis istud erat?
Et servare fidem pulchrum est et habere vicissim.
Convenit hoc claris, dic mihi, nonne viris?
Cur igitur stultos censes, quod uterque fidelis
Perstitit officii cum ratione memor?
Digni perpetuis apud omnes laudibus ambo,
Ille fidem servans, hic quod haberet, erunt.
Punica si potior cuique fortasse fuisset,
Hanc meritis poenis non caruisse puta.
